John Campbell

JOHN CAMPBELL, a former American diplomat, was Ralph Bunche Senior Fellow for Africa Policy Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations from 2009 to 2021. During his three decades at the U.S. State Department, he served as Ambassador to Nigeria, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Human Resources, Dean of the Foreign Service Institute's School of Language Studies, and Director of the Office of UN Political Affairs, among other positions. He is the author of Nigeria and the Nation-State: Rethinking Diplomacy With the Postcolonial World.
